Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Makita batteries in DeWalt tools?
No — Makita 18V LXT batteries are not physically or electrically compatible with DeWalt 20V MAX tools. Each brand uses a proprietary battery interface. Adapters exist but are not recommended due to safety and warranty concerns. Read our full cross-brand guide.
Will a 5.0 Ah battery make my drill more powerful?
A higher Ah battery does not increase the maximum power output of your tool — that’s determined by voltage and the motor. However, a 5.0 Ah pack sustains peak performance longer before voltage drops under load, so your tool may feel more powerful over extended use. Learn more.
Are third-party replacement batteries safe to use?
Quality third-party batteries from reputable brands with proper safety certifications (UL, CE) are generally safe. However, very cheap unbranded packs may lack adequate overcharge protection and can pose fire risks. See our safety guide.
What does FLEXVOLT mean on DeWalt batteries?
FLEXVOLT batteries automatically switch between 20V and 60V depending on the tool they’re inserted into. In a 20V MAX tool, they run at 20V with full capacity. In a 60V MAX tool, they run at 60V with one-third the Ah rating. Read our DeWalt tier guide.
